Meet Our Founder

John Cornejo, LVN

The story of Bethesda Companions begins with its founder, John Cornejo, and a life of service shaped by both family and faith.

John's journey into caregiving began at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he worked as a phlebotomist. Day after day, he met people in their most vulnerable moments — children, adults, and seniors alike — and quickly realized that beyond the procedure itself, what mattered most was connection: a kind word, a gentle presence, the ability to make someone feel seen. Those early lessons in compassion became the foundation of his calling.

Driven to expand his impact, John became a Licensed Vocational Nurse, serving in infectious disease, post-operative care, and across multiple specialties at both Cedars-Sinai and UCLA. He walked alongside patients facing chronic illness and the uncertainties of the pandemic, learning the value of offering not just clinical care, but human comfort.

John later led as a Director of Staff Development at a skilled nursing facility — hiring, scheduling, and mentoring caregiver teams — before moving into home health and hospice, where he discovered a deeper calling: supporting individuals and families at home during the most sacred chapters of life. He came to see caregiving not just as a career, but as a ministry of presence.

At the heart of John's story is his mother — a devoted Certified Nurse Assistant whose tireless work ethic and compassion lit the path for his own career. Watching her care for others with love and professionalism, John saw how caregiving transforms both the giver and the receiver.

Now a husband and father — with two sons and twin daughters on the way — John has woven together his family values, medical experience, and faith into a company designed to bless others while leaving a legacy of service. Bethesda Companions exists because one man believed care could be more than a service. It could be an act of kindness, a reflection of God's love, and a way of bringing light into the lives of others.
